"Tragically Romantic" -- do you understand this phrase?

Tragic Romance isn't really a contradiction. It is just that, a tragic romance. Perfect example, Romeo and Juliet. It's a story of love to the end, but they both kill themselves. This is tragic, but romantic because it was out of love.
