My neighbor is playing really loud, obnoxious music. What can I legally do to shut him up?

My neighbor is way across the street, and I can still hear his music, quite loudly. It's really annoying as it is late. Plus, it's tragically awful music, I can't even tell what genre it is. What can I do, other than notifying the police, that is legal? :)x
