If I were to write a story that had a tragic ending, would it be well-liked?

I would definitely love it. (some of my loving it depends on the rest of the story) I would love it and as well it bugs me when people write happy endings to stories all the time. Especially if some of them are cheesy. I am also trying to write a novel with a tragic ending and i was wondering the same thing. If your story is like Romeo and Juliet I would scream and want to read over a million times!
